EMIA (Earl Mosley's Institute of the Arts) is one of EMDOD's cornerstone programs. As a four-week residential summer intensive, EMIA has a multi-decade legacy of supporting developing artists with professional-level connections, diverse technical training, and expansive personal growth opportunities within a greater community of artists passionate about movement. In partnership with Hofstra University, we are proud to offer EMIA 2025, cultivated and curated to support individuals looking toward their future career as performing artists or simply as future and current citizens of our society.

VIDEO AUDITIONS

Video submissions must include:
•3-4 Ballet exercises at the Barre
•Modern phrase work 
•At least a 90-second solo of any technique/style of your choice 


VIDEO SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Tuesday, May 27th, 2025

All submissions must be edited into one video with viewing access made available. To submit your video, copy and paste a link to it onto the audition registration form through the button above or send it via email to emiadance@gmail.com.

Please note that all individuals auditioning for EMIA 2025 are required to complete the registration form, whether intending to audition in person or through video submission.  This includes payment of the $30 processing fee which can be fulfilled through PayPal at the button below:

After auditioning, participants will receive an acceptance email which will include the EMIA 2025 Intensive Registration Form. This must be filled out to confirm your spot in the intensive. At this stage a scholarship application will also be made available for those who wish to receive financial scholarship and work study opportunities.

Please be advised that EMIA will not be providing a meal plan. Students will be able to purchase food onsite from Hofstra University's cafeteria, and from surrounding restaurants and grocery stores!

As part of our mission to ensure that EMIA 2025 is accessible to as many hopeful participants as possible, irregardless to their financial situations, scholarships and work-study positions are available. Applications for these opportunities will be made available to accepted participants along with the intensive registration form.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

EMDOD wishes to be a launch pad of mentoring and guidance toward a better understanding of what it takes to experience and succeed in certain aspects of the behind the scenes business of the performing arts, helped in part through our offering of Internship Opportunities for EMIA 2025! Interns will work closely in the day-to-day operations of Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts alongside our expert host of professional artists and staff, from around the world!

Deadline to Apply: March 14th, 2025 
Acceptance and Notification: March 31st, 2025

Benefits applicable to all internship opportunities include:

 

•A $250 weekly stipend

•Dormitory housing for the duration of the internship

•One complimentary dance class each day

•College credit, work-study, independent study, and/or cooperative learning programs as available through your school*

Internships are only available to professional-level dancers (ages 18+). Interns with access to a car and who are willing to drive when asked as part of your job description are a huge plus. Any Intern who drives will be reimbursed for gas during their time on campus. Outside of these instances, EMDOD will not provide compensation or reimbursement for travel of any kind to and from campus and is not responsible for meals and other expenses associated with the internship.

*We encourage EMIA interns to check with their college registrar’s office and department to determine whether these credits can transfer to your school.

OFFERED INTERNSHIPS

Video Documentation Internship

The Video Documentation Internship is intended for those with a strong interest in dance film and documentary. The Video Documentation Intern (VDI) will work closely under the direction of the Digital Media and Communications Manager (DMCM) in capturing and documenting the experience of the artists, staff, faculty, dancers, and choreographers at EMIA. 


Requirements:

•Experience in camera work and video editing (specifically for dance)
•Must be available to stay at Hofstra University from July 5th - August 3rd


Roles and Expectations: 

•The primary focus of this position is to assist the DMCM in documenting the environment at EMIA, with a concentration on capturing the diversity and vibrancy of the EMIA community! This includes, but is not limited to:  

- Performances
- Classes
- Workshops
- Auditions
- Student Events/Activities
- Residence Life


•VDI is responsible for ensuring all footage is saved correctly for archival purposes
in a folder that is easily accessible to all EMDOD staff

•The VDI must be present for ALL EMIA performances, and is expected to capture audience interactions before and during intermission/entering and leaving the theater. This includes:
-Mainstage performances each Saturday of the intensive
- Student Choreography the second and fourth Wednesday of the Intensive
- Company In Residence Performances the second and fourth Thursday of the Intensive


*Please note, the VDI is not responsible for documenting the performances.

Application Process: 

•You will need to send a minimum of two work samples displaying your work in dance filming
•If selected, you will be interviewed via Zoom by Artistic Director Fredrick Earl Mosley

Administrative Internship

The  Administration Internship is intended for those with a strong interest in arts administration and program management. The Administration Intern (AI) will work closely under
the direction of EMIA's Assistant Director, Sheryl Thomas.


Requirements:

•Must be available to stay at Hofstra University from July 5th - August 3rd
•Previous arts/office administration experience is preferred but not required


Roles and Expectations: 

•M
ust be aware of all classes, workshops, and rehearsal schedules leading up to the tech/dress rehearsals.
They must be available for all performances including: 
- Mainstage performances each Saturday of the intensive
- Student Choreography the second and fourth Friday of the Intensive
- Company In Residence Performances the second and fourth Thursday of the Intensive

•Open the EMIA on-site office Monday-Friday at 8:15am. Office hours are 9-6pm Monday-Friday

•Prepare all materials regarding class schedules, workshops, auditions, activities, performances, etc.

•Be responsible for notifying dancers, faculty and staff of any change per schedule in a timely manner. Updates will be communicated through GroupMe App. Paper notifications will be placed in the studios, hallways, dorms as needed.

•Manage Box Office and Concessions during all performances

•Assist with advertising all performances during the intensive with the Hofstra community and public

•Make sure all sales are properly stored with Ms. Thomas

•Must be prepared to set up office on the day before the intensive begins and
break down the EMIA office on the last day of the intensive

Costume/Wardrobe Internship

The Costume/Wardrobe Internship is intended for those with an interest in Wardrobe Management. The Costume/Wardrobe Intern(CWI) will work alongside EMIA's Wardrobe Supervisor. 


Requirements:

•Must be available to stay at Hofstra University from July 5th - August 3rd
•Previous experience is preferred but not required
•Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs


Roles and Expectations: 

•Must be aware of all classes, workshops, and rehearsal schedules leading up to the tech/dress rehearsals.
They must be available for all performances including: 
- Main stage performances each Saturday of the intensive
- Student Choreography the second and fourth Friday of the Intensive

•Assist in determining costuming needs for all EMIA 2025 events and activities

•Assist in building costumes for dancers as needed

•Support Wardrobe Supervisor in the organization and management of the costume office

•Assist in any sewing repairs, alternations, laundry/cleaning as needed

•Conduct accurate tracking of all costumes and materials needed throughout the intensive

•Track and keep financial receipts of any costumes, and materials needed in the duration of EMIA 2025. Ordering costumes online is permitted with the approval of the Wardrobe Supervisor.

•Organize props and accessories and make them available to all faculty and choreographers.

•Oversee and assist in all fittings as needed.

•Oversee and assist in keeping inventory and restocking all costumes.

•Oversee and assist with quick changes during performances and emergency circumstances as needed. 

•Provide students with necessary instructions with how to take care of costumes while in their possession. Students should also be properly instructed on how to return costumes in a timely manner after each performance. 

•Provide students with proper instructions on how to return costumes in a timely manner and all accounted.

•Maintain a measurement file per student.

•Oversee and assist with any photoshoots during the duration of EMIA 2025

•Wash all costumes after each performance and restock
